Known for being hip as well as one of the hottest clubs in Dallas, Aura Dallas is a haven for the most attractive people in the city – or those who are visiting the area.
If you decide to check out this trendy dance club, be aware that there is no guarantee you’ll get in. Bouncers at the door will give you a thumbs up or down and you won’t get a second shot (that night). On the plus side, if you do make the cut you won’t have to pay a cover charge. Aura is mostly filled with a 30-ish young professional crowd, although some younger singles also drop in.
There is a velvet rope – just as there are at the most exclusive clubs – and your odds on making it past the long line are significantly improved if you are either a celeb or look like you could pass for one. Aura is primarily designed for singles who want to meet, mingle and dance the night away.
John Legend, Paris Hilton and Nick Belucci have all had special events or parties here.
If you’re female, wear your sexiest outfit. Sparkling dresses, low-cut necklines and stiletto heels are the norm at Aura. If you’re male, be aware that guys tend to ditch the tennis shoes and wear tight designer jeans.
Even the drinks at Aura have sexy names, including the Aura-gasm, putting the focus clearly on sex appeal – in every aspect of the club’s design, exclusive status and drink offerings (expect to pay around $4 to $7 per drink).
Aura has received plenty of praise, winning the Best of Big D 2010 Award for Best Dance Club. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, guest DJs keep the atmosphere lively, with the dance club and bar full of action – both on and off the dance floor.
On those evenings, Aura is open from 9 pm to 2 am. Before you go, you’ll want to make sure that Aura hasn’t been reserved for a special party or celeb event.
When it comes to the decor and feel at Aura, think Los Angeles with a twist of New York bar/dance club scene. If you’re feeling the least bit tired, drink plenty of coffee beforehand because the vibe is pure energy here, lasting to 2 am and sometimes even later. Don’t be surprised to find celebs or famous Dallas names in the room.
Be sure to check out the bar and adjacent seating area. The lighting in Aura tends to make everyone look their best, dimly lit yet with a sexy red glow. Regulars love the opportunity to drink and talk to others who have made it into Aura. They also expect to work up a sweat on the dance floor.
Sparkling ceiling and dance lights, modern black furniture and clean trendy lines help add to the cutting edge look of Aura. For the ultra elite, there is a VIP party room. Located on McKinney Avenue, Aura is in the center of Uptown Dallas residential and shopping hot spots.
If you enter Aura early in the evening, it might appear a bit quiet, but the action ramps up through the night, reaching a peak from midnight on. Since there isn’t even a sign on the door (you’re supposed to just “know” where to go), it helps to know that Aura is located right next to Rocco’s Pizza at 2912 McKinney Avenue.
There are occasional specials here and bottle service and valet parking are available. Cash and credit cards are accepted. Aura is perfect for birthdays (if you can make a reservation) as well as first dates. It is also an excellent place for singles to meet and ideal for popular for private gatherings. Corporate events are also held here but inquire about which types of businesses are best appropriate for the Aura experience.
When it comes to drinks, you’ll find imported beers and wines. The dance club also has its own signature drinks. The music? Often alternative with a mix of hip hop, pop and whatever the DJ of the evening feels are the newest and best tunes around. Of course, all the music needs to rate a “10″ on the dance scale.
