Belmont Hotel

Mid-century design is the theme at the Belmont Hotel, along with the most casual atmosphere of any hotel you’re likely to find in Dallas.

Hotel Belmont - Dallas, Texas

This is a boutique hotel which has a funky feel, a delight if you want to step back in time while still enjoying plenty of Texas hospitality. Definitely friendly and casual, you’ll find that many events at the Belmont note that shoes are optional. Now that’s casual!

The Belmont Hotel has a long and rich history in Texas. Originally a motor court hotel, it was built in 1946 and designed by Charles Stevens Dilbert, renowned as a local Texas architect. The Art Moderne design of the hotel still exists.

An astounding 8,000 cubic yards of earth and rocks were moved to sculpt a distinctive cliff site, one which still offers guests a breathtaking view of the Dallas skyline. At the time, the Belmont was among the first to offer air conditioning and was constructed of fireproof materials (a very innovative and safe touch).

Renovated in 2005, the hotel has won the Best of Dallas Awards for Reader’s Choice Best Hotel, Best Movie with a View and Best Skyline View. Even with these accolades, regulars call this the best kept secret in Texas.

Now that you’ve got a heads up, you might want to book a reservation and get in on the secret. Unique events like free movies every Thursday let you relax and sit back on the grass, barefoot if you prefer, while taking in the latest flick. There are also Sunday pool parties, starting each May.

Room prices average between $123 – $199. The reasonable prices have guests returning time and again. Room choices include standard, deluxe, junior suites and suites. Each room is delightful, with the mid- century design carrying over to the room decor. Deep soaking tubs are a special touch that you’ll enjoy at the Belmont.

You’ll have four buildings to choose from – each with its own personality. The Moderne is the main building, home to the BarBelmont lounge and terrace.

Then there are the Garden rooms and suites. There are eight garden rooms and suites here. As suggested, these rooms have views of a lovely garden.

The two story Loft buildings may offer the best city views and are best for families with children. Finally, the Bungalows contain all four room types and open to a walking garden. There is also a terrace suite in the Bungalow building, complete with private terrace and soaking tub.

The BarBelmont neighborhood lounge offers drinks and regular live entertainment ranging from art openings, bands and even tarot card readers. As leisurely as every part of the hotel, the BarBelmont is ideal for hanging out with friends while sipping a glass of wine or perhaps a martini.

When you want to chow down, make a beeline to Smoke, a signature restaurant which offers hardwood smoked foods, all made from scratch. This is Texas cooking at its best with homemade, basic entrees and other offerings. Room service is also available for those who want to ease into the morning, afternoon or evening.

Every six weeks, a new installation of art is featured in the main building of the Belmont. The artwork showcases both established and new artists. Whenever the display changes, there is an opening party and a chance to meet the artists.

Since barefoot seems to be another standard theme at the Belmont, it should be no surprise that there is a Barefoot concert series next to the pool, beginning the first Thursday in May and continuing monthly, every first and third Thursday (through August 5th).

If you’re looking for nearby attractions, the hotel is located near the Bishop Arts District, which has a unique collection of restaurants and boutiques. Don’t have a car? Someone from the Belmont will drive you to the area. Local restaurants located close to the Belmont include Campisi’s, Dakota’s Steakhouse, Morton’s and Chan Thai. There are plenty more restaurants to choose from so be sure to ask a staffer at the hotel for suggestions.

Perfect for weekend or week day stays, the Belmont Hotel is popular with singles, families and couples. Obviously, the atmosphere is pure casual, with not an ounce of stuffiness. Pets are also welcome here.
