Bikram Yoga Dallas

When the Texas sun is baking everything in sight, the only way to fight the heat is with… more heat! Stretch, sweat, twist and transform your body with a Bikram yoga class at Bikram Yoga Dallas.

The first and largest Bikram studio in Dallas, Bikram Dallas is ground zero for your Bikram practice. Yogis love the spacious studio, relaxing and friendly atmosphere, ample space in the changing rooms, and multiple showers. Believe us, after 90 minutes sweating out toxins, you won’t want to wait in a long line for the showers!

All teachers are Bikram-certified and maintain recertification status. Every teacher is committed to helping you improve your practice, whether this is your first class or your hundredth class. Teachers offer gentle corrections to help you move deeper in your postures.

For folks that are new to Bikram, every yoga class is 90 minutes long. These classes are performed in a heated room, which is generally 105 degrees with 50-60% humidity – just a little hotter than your average August afternoon in Dallas! The heat allows for a deeper workout, reduces the risk of injury during stretching, promotes the release of toxins through sweat, and improves circulation.

Each class features the same series of 26 yoga poses, bookended by two breathing techniques. Bikram Choudhury, who founded the practice of Bikram, selected these 26 postures specifically to combat the problems that plague our busy, stress-filled lives, including unhealthy eating habits and poor posture.

The yoga poses help improve physical strength and flexibility, restore balance to the body, and enhance mental clarity and focus. You’ll enjoy a great workout, and leave feeling refreshed, centered, and very sweaty.

If you’ve never taken a Bikram class before, or just heard horror stories about the miseries of hot yoga, it’s natural to feel anxious, intimidated or even think that anyone who practices Bikram must be insane! Have no fear — Bikram caters to all skill levels, and you’ll find everyone from beginners to experts in class with you.

To prepare for class, wear lightweight, comfortable clothing. Gym shorts are great for guys, and with the heat, there’s no need for a shirt. Many women choose to practice in sports bras and gym shorts, or even athletic swimwear. There’s no need to feel self-conscious about your body or worry that others are judging you. Everyone is way too busy focusing on the pose (and trying to keep sweat from dripping into their eyes) to even notice!

Before and after class, be sure to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. And don’t eat too close to your class – you’ll want to wait at least two hours of separation time between your last big meal and your class. With all the stretching, twisting and turning, eating too much before class can lead to some serious discomfort! Yogis can refuel after class with natural juices, energy packs and waters – all for sale at the studio.

Towels and mats are available for rent. One class is $20, or if you’ll be in Dallas for more than a few days and plan on taking at least two classes, you can enjoy an entire month of unlimited classes for $40.

As a word of caution to newcomers, with all that sweating and heat, the inside of any Bikram studio can start to smell a little. Bikram Dallas is no different, but it’s the same scent devoted yogis learn to love, er tolerate. Yes, the mixture of sweat, sweat and more sweat is not high on anyone’s ‘favorite smells list’, but it all comes with the territory.

While there is little that can be done about the eau de sweat, the staff do keep the studio spotlessly clean. Between classes, the entire studio is sanitized, along with the showers and changing rooms.

Bikram Dallas is located on Mockingbird Lane, close to the 75N Central Expressway, SMU, Love Field, North Park Mall, the Galleria and downtown Dallas.
