Dallas Chop House

The Dallas Chop House is an upscale restaurant with a reputation for some of the best steaks and unique entrees to be found in Dallas. After a day of sightseeing or business meetings, you can have a lovely meal here, leaving the kids at home.

You’ll not only enjoy superb dining but also marvel at the lovely decor. Expect to spend up to $60 per person (and more is not unusual). Most people tend to wear dressy clothing.

The Dallas Chop House was listed among the Top Steakhouses in Dallas/Fort Worth by the Dallas Morning News. It also received accolades from Modern Luxury Magazine as well as other magazines and media publications.

Perhaps dry aging meat for up to 45 days in a room filled with Himalayan salt sets Dallas Chop House meats apart from the crowd and accounts for all the praise!

As you enter the Dallas Chop House you’ll see artwork by James Spurlock (a local artist) as well as Charlie Winney. True to Dallas history, the artwork features images of cowboys, cattle drives, and other Texas subjects. Leather chairs, elegant wallpaper and cozy lighting create a most welcoming atmosphere. Visitors describe the interior as “stunning” and “dramatic.”

If you like fine architecture, you’ll especially appreciate the location of the Dallas Chop House. It resides inside the famous Comerica Bank Tower, designed by renowned architect Phillip Johnson.

The restaurant blends nicely to the gorgeous building, mingling modern touches with traditional elements. The open kitchen is a focal point, where you’ll enjoy seeing the chefs prepare meals.

Be sure to make a stop at the bar before dinner. Not only are there a variety of specialty drinks, but shimmering onyx and one of a kind seating make the bar particularly appealing. Happy Hour takes place Mondays through Saturdays from 4 pm to 9 pm.

There is also a patio near the bar which has very comfortable seats. The patio decor is as stunning as the rest of the restaurant, with a custom-designed steel and wood trellis, specialty lighting and a stone and steel wall with a gorgeous fireplace. The patio area overlooks the Main Street Gardens of downtown Dallas.

Regulars note the details that set the Dallas Chop House apart from other restaurants include special touches such as Blue Cheese Butter and Roasted Garlic.

Not surprisingly for a restaurant named The Chop House, steaks are the most popular choices here, so tender they practically melt in your mouth. Catering to meat eaters, the Chop House is not particularly designed for vegetarian tastes. Depending on your appetite, you can opt for steaks ranging from an 8 ounce filet to a 24 ounce dry aged porterhouse.

There are also seafood choices available at the Dallas Chop House but it is indeed the steaks that seem to be the main attraction. If you really feel a yen for seafood, though, try the Asian Barbequed Salmon or Seared Sea Scallops.

Whether you’re eating meat or seafood, check out the Wasabi, Lobster and Truffle butters. They’ll add a nice finishing touch to your selections and are specialties of the Chop House.

Popular side dishes include Marsala Mushrooms, Creamed Spinach and Tempura Asparagus. If you’re a traditional meat and potatoes fan, you can also order the standard baked potato.

The wine list has some very nice choices and the waiting staff can provide you with some suitable suggestions. Desserts are also available and may include Carrot Cake,  Key Lime Pie or similarly delicious choices.

Dallas Chop House is open for lunch daily from 11 am to 3 pm. Dinner is served from Monday through Thursday from 5 pm to 10 pm. On Friday and Saturday nights, the restaurant stays open until 11 pm.

Dallas Chop House is located at 1717 Main Street. Reservations can be made by calling (214) 736-7300. If you’re planning to explore Downtown Dallas, the Chop House is the ideal finale to your day.
