Fair Park Dallas is a one of a kind experience that cannot be duplicated anywhere else in the world. Because of its uniqueness, it is said that it attracts more than 7 million visitors annually. The locals would say that the 277-acre park is the gem of Dallas, but the visitors describe it as even more than they could imagine.
Visitors planning to vacation in Dallas are encouraged to set aside at least a couple of days to insure that they have time to see all that Fair Park has to offer. The park boasts the largest collection of art deco buildings from the 1930s in the United States.
Fair Park is the only original pre-1950s world fair location left in the United States. Interestingly, the park has been turned into a military base twice in its history. While some of the attractions at Fair Park are opened year round, many are only opened during the Texas State Fair, which is held in during the late summer/early fall each year. The Texas State Fair is one of the largest state fairs in the US and plays host to hundreds of attractions, vendors, shows, livestock exhibits and carnival rides. Fair goers must ride the famous Fair Park’s Texas Star, which is billed as the largest Ferris wheel in North America.
Fair Park hosts several eateries such as the Old Mill Inn Restaurant, The Bistro and Café Max to name a few. There is literally something for every taste within the park. However, if visitors would rather eat somewhere else or have a drink or two to wind down after a fun day of sight seeing, there are a plethora of restaurants and lounges within 5 miles of the park.
If you’d rather go shopping for part of the day, downtown Dallas is a short 15 minutes from the park and offers some of the finest shopping in Texas. Popular West Village and Victory Park are always popular shopping destinations for anyone visiting the downtown Dallas area.
