Officially opened in 1967, this tree-lined course features a narrow fare way that makes it challenging to hit the green if you miss the fare way. The course is a par 71 with 7068 yards (5474 for women) a slope of 142 and a rating of 74.6.

The Royal Oaks Country Club story began in the 1960s. PGA great Graham Ross owned and operated a golf course at Glen Lakes, near the present day Royal Oaks Country Club. The property, however, was slated for development and later sold. Ross and friend Irby Mann began to look for land near Dallas to build a new course, and settled on the land that is now Royal Oaks.

The Royal Oaks course has an impressive pedigree. One of the course architects and builders, J. Press Maxwell, is the son of Perry Maxwell, who designed and built such famous courses as Southern Hills in Tulsa and participated in the building of Augusta National. In addition to Maxwell, Don January and Billy Martindale also worked on designing the Royal Oaks course.

From 1994 to 2000, the Royal Oaks course underwent renovations to improve the course quality. The original course, designed based on topographical maps from the 1960s, had a few flaws due to the fact that the maps did not accurately represent the land and the flow of White Rock Creek through the course.

Modifications made to holes 9, 10, 12, 13, 15 and 16 ensure they now represent the architect’s original vision for the course.

Royal Oaks also recently renovated and expanded its practice facilities. Additionally, the clubhouse, tennis courts and members-only dining are popular with Royal Oaks members.

Royal Oaks Country Club is located in the heart of Dallas at 7915 Greenville Avenue. It is just south of I-635 and east of I-75. It is also near several public courses, including L. B. Houston Municipal Golf Course, North Texas Golf Center, and Dallas Family Golf Center.

On the weekdays a round of golf is $85; on the weekends it is $125. Prices, of course, are subject to change so call to find out the most current rates.
