Overview

Prior to his death in August 2019, your tour guide was afforded a one-hour interview with Police Detective James LeValle who was handcuffed to Oswald at the time he was shot by Jack Ruby. LeValle was also the chief interrogator of both Oswald and Jack Ruby.

The focus of the tour not only includes the significant landmarks, but the guide is well-versed in topics not related to November 22, 1963, but very much about the mystery of the event. For example, what was the purpose of Kennedy's trip to Texas? Where had Oswald traveled prior to the assassination? Why had Oswald also attempted another assassination of a Dallas resident considered to be a far-right extremist? Why was the motorcade route changed only 2 days before the president's arrival in Dallas.

Dealey Plaza National Historic Landmark District
Dealey Plaza is a park located on the western edge of downtown Dallas. Because it is the location of the first home built in Dallas, the park is considered the birthplace of Dallas. The plaza was finished in 1940 and funded by the Work Progress Administration. It is the site of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963 and today a National Historic Landmark (1993)

George Dealey Statue
The plaza was named for George Bannerman Dealey (September 18, 1859 – February 26, 1946) to acknowledge and honor his civic leadership in Dallas. He was publisher of the Dallas Morning News and played major roles in the development of Dallas. He helped establish Southern Methodist University and was instrumental in bringing a Federal Reserve branch to Dallas. The plaza was built initially in recognition of the 1936 Texas Centennial and named for Mr. Dealey in 1934. The statue was erected in 1949.

Grassy Knoll
Now known as the Dallas County Administration Building, the Texas Book Depository Building at the intersection of North Houston and Elm Streets is the site from which both the Warren Commission and the House Select Committee on Assassinations concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald fired a rifle that killed President Kennedy.

The grassy knoll is located adjacent to the Dallas County Administration Building, so named as the Texas Book Depository Building at the time of the assassination. It is a sloping hill that overlooks Elm Street. Stand where Abraham Zapruder, among others, filmed the remarkable video of the assassination.
